If you are thinking of buying a bonded leather sofa or chair, you should really reconsider. Find out why you should stay away from bonded leather furniture after the break…
What is Bonded Leather?
Bonded leather is not leather at all, it’s leather dust mixed with vinyl to create a strong leather-looking material and the life span is only 3 to 5 years.
Why Do Consumers Like Bonded Leather?
A lot of people like bonded leather because it looks stylish and is very inexpensive but like the old saying you get what you pay for and I learned this the heartbreaking way.
My Bonded Leather Story
I use to be an Interior Decorator for a furniture store and they were bringing in all these new bonded leather sofas. I caught feelings for this red bonded leather sectional, I had to have it and it only cost me $300 (with my discount).
So I got it home and styled it with my throw pillows and throw blanket, I was very proud of how it looked in my living room. After having it for a while I noticed the area where I would frequently sit started peeling and by year three of owning the sofa it looked like this.

I started to research furniture made with bonded leather and all over the internet there were a lot of complaints. What’s fucked up, so many furniture stores (including the one I worked for) don’t tell consumers that bonded leather will start to peel.
I had to call a few of my clients to inform them of the items that I recommended to buy what will happen with them after a while and that they will have to replace them within a few short years.
Moral of the story, learn from my mistake and don’t waste your money on bonded leather furniture. Invest in full-grain leather, it will cost more but it will be worth the coins.
If you’re still interested in buying bonded leather furniture just make sure you purchase a really good protection plan that includes replacing the item free of charge.
