The 9 Biggest Bachelor Pad Mistakes I See Most Often

THE 9 BIGGEST BACHELOR PAD MISTAKES I SEE MOST OFTEN

I’ve been styling bachelor pads for a few years now and whenever I do consultations I often see these 9 bachelor pad mistakes over and over again. The good news is these minor mistakes can definitely be fixed, find out what they are after the break…

1. 3 to 5 different design styles in one room

This is the number one mistake out of the nine I see often. For example, having transitional, modern mid-century, and rustic altogether. Understand different design styles can be mixed together just in a correct way. As a rule, you should stick with 2 max in a bachelor pad.

2. Too much furniture

I don’t get why men need to have a bunch of furniture in one room, it gives me hoarder vibes. When I see this I ask my clients why do they have all this furniture their excuses are “well my grandma gave me this” or “I had this chair since college”, etc… That’s cool however if you live in a small ass apartment your grandma’s sofa and your fave chair AND your old college futon should not be all in the living room. Two of those items gotta go.

3. Bare walls

Not having anything on the walls may not be a big deal to you, but it just makes your bachelor pad look unfinished. You can usually find inexpensive wall art or posters at TJ Maxx, Home Goods, eBay, and Amazon. Also make sure you frame them, IKEA has really inexpensive frames for any size wall art.

4.Too much on the wall

You’re a grown-ass man with grown-ass man bills, you don’t need a clusterfuck of tacky posters duct-taped all over your walls like you’re still in college. If you prefer your walls full I suggest a designed wall gallery.

5. Lack of personality

A house is not a home unless it has some personality, some men’s homes look like they don’t even live there. All bachelor pads need personality because it’s a feeling and a vibe. You work all day, so why not come home to a place that represents you as well as makes you feel good.

6. Matching furniture sets

When I worked as an Interior Decorator at a furniture store men would constantly come in and buy the whole matching sofa set, dining room set, or bedroom set exactly how I set it up on the showroom floor. That is so boring and makes your bachelor pad look really cheap. It’s ok to mix-match furniture in a room and buy your furniture from different stores, I highly recommend you do so.

7. Outdated furniture

If it’s more than 10 years old (unless it’s a cool vintage find), it’s time to let it go. I know you just moved into your new spot, money is limited and you’re accepting any kind of furniture like your Auntie’s old ass paisley sofa with the bonded leather arms. If this is you throw it away!

8. Alot of black and brown

Too much black and brown in a man’s home is a mood killer. Some men are afraid to add color in their bachelor pads but If you can wear a mauve blazer, an electric blue tailored-made suit, or leopard print Red Bottoms sneakers, you can most certainly add some color in your space.

9. Not enough textiles

This means a sofa without throw pillows, a bed without mature bedding, hardwood floors without rugs, and windows without the proper window treatment. These types of textiles are surely needed in a bachelor pad so the space can feel comfy, stylish, and complete.

So, Fellas how many of these 9 bachelor pad mistakes do you have?
